Job Description: Senior Pastor

Principal Function/Role: The pastor is responsible for leading the church to function as a New Testament church. The pastor will lead the congregation, the organizations, and the church staff. The pastor is leader of pastoral ministries in the church. Follow, support, and defend the constitution, by-laws, and operational procedures established by the Church.

Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:

  • Proclaim the gospel and lead the church in proclaiming the gospel to the church and community.
  • Preach at all worship servcies that include a sermon time or arrange for someone to provide, when absent.
  • Care for persons and lead the church in caring for persons in the church and community.
  • Provide administrative ladership fo9r the total church program.
  • Provide leadership for worshiping, witnessing, educating, training, and applying Christian principles to daily life.
  • Supervise church staff & employees and direct week-day operation of the church office. (Including documented annual evaluation of staff).
  • Provide leadership for the observance of church ordinances.
  • Conduct funeral services at his own discretion.
  • Conduct wedding ceremonies at his own discretion.
  • Lead and assist in training deacons for their responsiblitiies.
  • Serve as ex-officio member of Deacon Council & all standing committees.
  • Lead the staff in visitng the lost, the ill at home or in the hospitals, those who are in nursing homes, and those who are newcomers to the community.
  • Consult with &/ or communication to Chairman of Deacons concerning his absences, special activities, or decisions that impact church operation or services.
  • Laed in long range planning for future ministry or growth.
  • Cooperate with the local association, state convention, and Southern Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concern. Represent the church in civic matters.
  • In addition to the above job duties, he must work to maintain a lifestyle of personal commitment, integrity and growth that is consistent with the Gospel. He is the spiritual leader of his home and should prioritize his role in his own family in obedience to Scripture and as an example to the body.

Compensation, Benefits, Time off:

  • Salary will be negotiated during the pastor search and hiring process.
  • Work days/schedule - 5 days, to include Sunday and Wednesday.
  • Paid Holidays: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (2 days), Christmas (2 days).
  • Sick days/time - 2 weeks paid time off for family illness &/or personal matters. Frequent or extended absences to be discussed &/or approved by Chairman of Deacons and Council.
  • Bereavement -3 days paid leave for immediate family (spouse, children, parents, parents-in-law, siblings, siblings-in-law, grandparents, grandparents-in-law, son/daughter-in-law, grandchildren)
  • Vacation - 2 weeks (14 days including 2 Sundays). After 3 years of employment completed, increases to 3 weeks (21 days, including 3 Sundays). Cannot be carried over or retroactive from year to year.
  • Revivals - After 1 year of employment, paid leave for 1 week absence to lead Revivial Services.
  • Conferences - Paid time off and expenses for up to 2 conferences per year, within the amounts budgeted for meetings and conferences.
